Product Care
Washing Aquafoil and Gore-Tex garments:
We recommend that all our Gore-Tex garments are hand/machine washed at no more than 40°C. Aquafoil should be hand washed at no more than 30°C. Use non-biological washing powders only, with no fabric softener. The garments may be tumble dried at a low heat setting, but must be removed from the drum immediately when the machine stops.
Washing instructions can be found in the left hand side seam or left hand pocket and should always be adhered to. Our garments are not dry cleanable.
The Gore-Tex fabric and Aquafoil outer layers in all cases are treated with a Durable Water Repellent (DWR) finish which causes water droplets to bead and run off the garment. Over time, the outer treatment deteriorates but can be rejuvenated by either tumble drying at a low heat setting or ironing on the outer face on a cool setting.
In some cases the chemical may have totally worn out. From the products available in the market place we have found, from our own in-house lab tests, that Superpruf from Granger’s or TX Direct Spray (which should be available from most outdoor stockists) gave good results in water repellency without affecting breathability too much. Berghaus fleece jackets Hand wash/machine wash at a maximum of 40°C using only non-biological powder and no softener or conditioner Rinse thoroughly and line dry. Do not iron. Cool tumble dry only.
We advise all our customers to follow the Berghaus washing instructions as any other labels only apply to the fabric and not the finished garment.
