Washing Gore-Tex shell jackets:
We recommend that all our Gore-Tex garments are hand/machine washed on a cool, delicate cycle. (Check washing instructions on care label). Use non-biological washing powders only, with no fabric softener. The garments may be tumble dried at a low heat setting, but must be removed from the drum immediately when the machine stops.
Washing instructions can be found in the left hand side seam or left hand pocket and should always be adhered to. Our garments are not dry cleanable.
The Gore-Tex fabric outer layers in all cases are treated with a Durable Water Repellent (DWR) finish which causes water droplets to bead and run off the garment. Over time, the outer treatment deteriorates but can be rejuvenated by either tumble drying at a low heat setting or ironing on the outer face on a cool setting.
In some cases the chemical may have totally worn out. There are products available such as Superpruf from Grangers or TX Direct Spray from Nik Wax which give good results in water repellency without affecting breathability too much.
PSM Outdoors stocks a range of Nik Wax products for waterproofing, cleaning and conditioning outdoor gear.
